This collection of matchbox altars is inspired by Brazilian oratories and Mexican retablos. My collection features suicide bombers, fallen rulers of foreign regimes, and rebel fighters. Also there are children victimized by modern war, mourning mothers, and images taken from the Abu Ghraib photos. I wanted to comment on whom is venerated by whom today, and how we might try to empathize in trying to see how we all have something in common when it comes to loss.
